About him
Robert is not everyone's cup of tea:
He can't dance, isn't keen on foreign travel (he has done a lot), won't move house, and does not want to cohabit. He does not believe in astrology or any god. He speaks like an old-time radio 3 announcer and, appropriately, he likes only classical music; he plays the piano amateurishly.
Notwithstanding his personable, kind, and honest nature, he really doesn’t thrive at big social occasions, and he feels a bit uncomfortable in posh restaurants. He has been married twice (20 years each time, both ending in divorce).
Although he is quite fit and healthy he is not interested in sport, neither to watch nor to take part. He prefers being out in nature to being indoors, and he spends far too much time pottering about on his rusty old narrowboat, when he should be at home tidying things up.
He is retired, but still works, pro bono, on scientific research projects that interest him with people he likes. He has execrable taste in clothes, is very fussy about apostrophes, and has far too many books.
