About him
I was a carer for about 5 years for my only wife who died (at home) earlier this year after 5 years of Alzheimer’s (9 years of dementia) and 37 years together. So tentatively looking for company/friends – if something happens over time, it happens.
I have a reasonably large group of friends – many couples and male sports players. So not female company.
I am rebuilding my fitness now, so I play tennis or racketball 3 or 4 times a week (and am qualified to coach both) and try to ensure that I do some exercise (walk at least) every day.
Years ago, I reached Gold Star and above in Ballroom and Latin dancing and am just restarting after many years. It was quite a thrill to realise how much I recall.
That said, I am happy to go to classical concerts – but not keen on Jazz. (Love Winton Marsallis and Zoe Rahman however). Happy to extend – not keen on opera however.
I like to get out and do things - but I also still do online tutoring with university students (not too much). Successfully it seems – they tend to come back the next year.
I am much more of a dog (about 40 years) than cat person – but inherited a kitten/cat once, who was great fun.
Most people would describe me as outgoing - active, able to hold conversation but rarely on trivia. I watch a little TV – but usually only when eating by myself at home, usually dramas.
I worked abroad when younger (for about 10 years) and I like to travel with purpose but I tend not to lie on the beach. I am widely travelled but there is still much to see and enjoy.
I am pretty self-sufficient. Probably best to read friend’s comments to get a better feel about me.
I don’t take good selfies so have included some photos with people removed. So some may look odd!
About his ideal match
Someone who is active and with relatively wide interests.
I can do cultural but am not (currently) a culture vulture. I am always interested in expanding my interests.
A deal breaker would be anyone who thinks that regularly watching television for an evening is a good idea (but not adverse to good movies/drama now and again).
Sharing long walks/bike rides would work - I do not need a sports partner, but open to one.
Essentially I am looking for interesting company.

I have known David for about a year as one of his wife's carers. He was devoted to making her life easier - allowing her to be at home until passing.
He enjoys learning new things. David loves travelling abroad in his motorhome, helps students worldwide, and stays active by playing racquetball and tennis.

David is my extremely interesting, loyal and empathetic friend. He has reached a crossroads in his life having cared for his much loved late wife, utterly courageously, through a devastating and fatal illness.
David and I have known each other since 6th form days when he was an excellent student and keen sportsman. He is very smart and lively minded; a critical thinker who lectures in higher education and tutors privately and successfully.
Possessing great sense of humour and being very well-travelled, David is an excellent host.
He is emotionally intelligent, pragmatic and has always been willing to support me with personal and legal advice when I have been in need.
Sport plays an important part in David's life. He is an able sportsman playing and coaching a variety of racket sports. Also, he has a penchant for lively dogs and taking long walks.
Physically, David is strong, tall, svelte and muscular with rugged features. He is
a dancer by nature and training and attractive both physically and intellectually.
David is highly trustworthy and has sympathy for the human condition; unusual and delightful.
An anecdote has been requested so I have a short story to demonstrate his thoughtfulness.
After visiting David for a weekend, I started to drive home but, after a couple of miles, I found myself in heavy traffic and soon a static jam. I waited patiently when suddenly, David appeared wearing his running kit and waving my mobile. He had bothered to run miles to try to reach my car and reunite me with my phone! How kind was that?

I first met David soon after meeting my husband 33 years ago. They met when they were both studying for A level GCE's at school. They both shared a keen interest in hockey, athletics and cross country running, all of which David excelled at, but my husband less so..... so it has always been a joke among us. David became a lecturer at university and many other places both at home and abroad. As a lecturer and as a tutor, David has helped countless students to achieve their goals! He mentored me for my Masters degree!!!! Additionally, I think it is fair to say that he is probably one of the most intelligent men that I have ever met!
David has a good sense of humour, a happy disposition, and is both rational and pragmatic. He still maintains his keen interest in sport and plays racquetball, tennis and squash to a very reasonable standard whenever he can. We enjoy playing together...he is a tennis coach, so I enjoy my free lessons with him!!!!
David's life over the past few years has been dominated as carer for his ailing wife; a task that he carried out without complaint and with loving devotion!
David has decided that the time is now right to move on in life and I really hope that he finds someone to share his future with! We are very good and close friends and please be assured that he is a genuinely nice gentleman!!!
