About him
If you asked my friends about me, they would cast many terrible aspersions upon me. This is, as we all know, a sign of just what a wonderful person I am. Between board games, an insistence that cooking is a shared activity, my love of surrealist art, and the long walks across every tall landscape we can see, I've worked out what's important in life: spending as much time with the people I love as I possibly can.
I'm the kind of person that responds to "what's your favourite piece of music" with a request for clarification. Do you want to know my favourite piano concerto (Rachmaninoff 3... or the variations on the theme by Rick Astley) or my favourite prog rock band (probably Tool, but I'm open to discuss) or the thing which is currently stuck in my playlist because YouTube refuses to acknowledge that I might be done listening to it (the Mean Girls musical - which I didn't know was a thing, but which YouTube has decided is the only thing I should ever listen to)? And are we talking about musical value, or sociocultural value? Because I haven't listened to much Taylor Swift, but she's one of the most culturally important artists of the 21st Century and–
Well. As you can see, I'm infinitely curious, always to talk, and am not afraid to drag you up a mountain so that you can't escape from the conversation. My icebreaker at conferences is "Do you think the Marxist revolution is still inevitable?" and - somehow - this works better than anything I've ever found. I don't think it's just because I have a Ph.D. in Music, a career in research, and opinions on the Oxford comma (essential - ambiguity is bad!). I think it's because I'm interested in what people have to say, and will tease it out of them until they tell me what they want to share.
If you want to have someone you can talk to about anything and who will always be trying to find something new to share with you ... well, my friends think I'm great. Can that many wonderful people all be wrong?

I want to find someone who shares my curiosity about the world and my passion for living it. Someone who isn't afraid to ask why or how, and then tell me what they found out so I can learn something new as well. I'm unafraid of trying new things, and try to avoid becoming set in my ways - whether that's new food, new ideas, or new places. Conversation is important to me, but so is sharing quiet moments, and I want someone who is as comfortable sharing a silence as they are sharing a conversation.
